Changing Communities: Building in Liss part 10

Here’s the latest photos of the building work in Liss. As you can see there is a lot of work happening and the first show home is being built. For our friends in Uganda, a show home is a home that people can visit to get an idea of what all the other homes will look like. It is used to attract new buyers.

The Covid – 19 outbreak has delayed building on the Andlers Wood project in Liss. Show homes, which were due to be available to view in July, have now been delayed until December. However, work has restarted and there will be road closures for six weeks while essential work is carried out.

Work continues apace on the site at Andlers Wood, and as the photos show, there is now a big billboard advertising the new houses.

The first foundations have been laid and the website below gives you much more detail about the new estate.

Uganda week in Year 3

Ash class began their work this week on ‘Changing communities’ beginning with creating their own communities and justifying why these places are needed. They were very inventive! We then looked at maps of Kampala and Kafuro and identified which jobs people might have, based on the land. We are very excited for Mr Thembo to come and visit!

The next photos from the Andlers Ash development, taken today, show that work is progressing smoothly around the suite entrance. Piles of earth in the distance are testament to the the amount of work the diggers are doing in clearing the land. If you look carefully, you can also see measuring equipment.

Work is continuing apace with the new Andlers Ash development. From the school we can see diggers moving in the distance. The photos below show that pipes are ready to be laid and the entrance to the site is developing.

Changing Communities: Building starts in Liss

Blog readers will know that one of the major topics that Liss, Kafuro, Hambledon and Rihamu have been studying is how our communities are changing and what the impact will be on the people and services in each community.

This week in Liss, the first phase of building new houses has started on Andlers Ash Road, which is a five minute walk away from the school. The houses will be built on the site of a former tree nursery. Seventy-seven new houses are being built in the first phase and this should have some impact on the village. As well as welcoming new people into our community, it should mean that there will be new arrivals at the school as new children join when they move into the area. There should also be a greater demand on local services and an opportunity for local businesses to generate more income.

We will post new photos each week as the building work progresses.
